Parcels

PostNL parcel delivery operations cover the Netherlands and Belgium. Last year, we delivered some 96 million parcels, an increase of nearly 7%. Over 85% are delivered by subcontractors.

Online shopping is responsible for the ongoing increase in volume. In order to accommodate the growth, PostNL will invest a total of €240 million over the coming years in a new infrastructure for parcels that can handle an additional 40% increase in volume.

We have a new scan system that enables us to meet special customer wishes, such as delivery on a specific day or within a given time period. Customers can also visit our website now to check when drivers are scheduled to deliver a parcel. And if customers are not at home at the moment of delivery, they can choose themselves where and when they wish to have the parcel delivered a second time: on a different day or time, at the neighbours or at the local post office.

Furthermore, we have developed special services such as CheckPay, which authorises payment to webshops only after customers have successfully received their orders. Another example is the household appliance delivery service in which the driver collects the old appliance, for example a washing machine, at the time of delivering the replacement that was ordered online.
