PostNL phases reorganisation in the interest of quality

Agreement with Works Council on approach

3 July 2012 at 08:30 CET - The Hague – In the interest of the quality of mail delivery, PostNL is choosing to implement the reorganisation of letter mail it previously announced in a more phased manner. As a consequence of this, PostNL is postponing the opening of new central preparation locations (CPLs) to next year. This also means that no delivery offices will be closed this year, with the exception of the Zaltbommel and IJsselstein offices. Together with the Works Council, the company has developed an approach for a controlled implementation, which will be tested via a number of pilot studies.

On the basis of the above, a decision will be taken in the fall with respect to the way the reorganisation is to be rolled out. PostNL and its employee participation have jointly expressed the confidence that these are the right steps to take. Earlier in April 2012 PostNL decided at the request of the Works Council to hold off on reorganisation of letter post due to quality problems.

Pieter Kunz, Director Operations of PostNL: "Good quality will remain our point of focus. Thus we will only resume rolling out the reorganisation once we are sure that we can limit the impact of the reorganisation on our customers. Our attention is especially focused on obituary notices and medical mail. The agreements we have now made are a good basis for the follow-up steps we will be taking."

PostNL emphasises that it will stick to the basic assumptions on which the reorganisation is based. The other current reorganisations at PostNL, such as transfer of all small transport (collection, pickup services for business clients and mail delivery in rural areas) to a separate unit in PostNL (Auto Unit), moving the Business Points and post boxes from post offices to retailers will proceed according to plan.

In case of discrepancies between the Dutch and English versions of this press release, the Dutch version will prevail.
