'De Grote Bosatlas' honoured with stamp

5 July 2012 at 17:30 CET - Gouda – On the occasion of the 54th and also latest edition of De Grote Bosatlas, PostNL presented the stamp sheet 'The Netherlands in the Bosatlas' at the Coornhert Gymnasium in Gouda earlier today. The stamp sheet was designed in close collaboration with Noordhoff Uitgevers, the publisher of Bosatlas. It was decided to summarise the development of the Dutch landscape onto a single stamp sheet. Ard Korporaal from PostNL presented the stamp sheet to Peter Vroege from Noordhoff Uitgevers.

The design

The design by Sonja Haller and Pascal Brun from design studio Haller Brun in Amsterdam features images of seven open Bosatlas editions – the first edition from 1877, the editions from 1961, 1971, 1981, 2001 and 2007, and the latest 2012 edition, with general topographical maps and thematic maps.

Sonja Haller: "It was quite a challenge to create a result with the contours of the Netherlands still clearly visible all over the sheet. Of course, this was no easy task, particularly since the scale of the maps has changed in the course of time. Rather than being a disadvantage, this aspect has rendered the design more interesting. I must add that the Dutch borders are only partially shown. In practice, we found that emphasising the coastline and the province of Limburg was sufficient to make the shape of the Netherlands clearly distinguishable."

Availability

The stamps are available while stocks last at the Bruna shops, at Collect Club in Groningen and online via www.postnl.nl/collectclub. The stamps have an indefinite term of validity. In addition to the sheet with ten identical stamps, there are a so-called 'prestige booklet' as well as two first-day covers.*
