First stamps commemorating Dutch writers presented to Couperus Society in Couperus Museum

The Hague – Earlier today in the museum, Robin Boon, Corporate Communications director at PostNL, presented Petra Teunissen-Nijsse, president of the Couperus Society (Dutch: Couperus Genootschap) and Caroline de Westenholz, chairman of the foundation Louis Couperus Museum in The Hague, with the first stamps commemorating Dutch writers. The sheet comprises ten stamps bearing the portraits of five famous Dutch writers: Louis Couperus, Adriaan Roland Holst, Godfried Bomans, Simon Carmiggelt and Gerrit Kouwenaar. The stamps pay homage to these writers and feature typical quotes and pithy sayings. The five were not only selected for their literary status, but also because 2013 marks a special birthday for each of the authors. The Louis Couperus Society has also nominated 2013 as Louis Couperus Jubilee Year.

The Hague – On 1 May 2013, PostNL will issue two inauguration stamps on the occasion of the inauguration of King Willem-Alexander. The newest inauguration stamps differ from their predecessors (1898, 1948, 1980) in several important respects: they are smaller and self-adhesive, and the design is typographical. PostNL will issue the permanent stamp later this year in honour of the new King.

Resolutions Annual General Meeting of Shareholders

The Hague – Today, PostNL N.V.’s Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) adopted the 2012 financial statements of the company and determined the dividend over 2012 at € 0.181 per ordinary share, which has been paid as an interim dividend in shares in August 2012. No final dividend will be paid out.

PostNL and trade unions reach agreement in principle for CLA mail deliverers

The Hague - PostNL has reached an agreement in principle on a one year collective labour agreement (CLA) for mail deliverers with trade unions BVPP, Abvakabo FNV and CNV Publieke Zaak. This CLA offers a salary increase to the employees that have been working for PostNL for a longer period. The starting salary continues to follow the minimum wage.

Royal PostNL delivers 1.3 million T-shirts for Koningsspelen

The Hague – In the run-up to the Koningsspelen (King’s games) on 26 April, PostNL Parcels will deliver some 6,500 festive parcels and over 1.3 million T-shirts to all participating primary schools. PostNL will also deliver the certificates to these schools. The parcels will require more than 20 truck loads.

Princess Máxima receives first of 1001 Women stamps

The Hague / Amsterdam – Her Royal Highness Princess Máxima of the Netherlands received the first 1001 Women stamps from Jan Bos, PostNL's CFO on 2 April. The presentation was held at the Special Collections exhibit of the University of Amsterdam, which is also hosting the exhibition 1001 Women in Dutch History. The stamps and the exhibition were developed on the basis of the book with the same title edited by Els Kloek; a tribute to the many high-profile women in Dutch history.

Graphic Design students design stamp

The Hague – Graphic Design students at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem are going to design the new business stamps for PostNL. The design project is part of their final exam programme 2013. The stamps with values ‘1’ and ‘2’ will be available in early 2014.

Intention to adjust Universal Service Obligation

The Hague – PostNL has decided to withdraw its application for compensation of the net costs in respect of 2011. The reason is that Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Henk Kamp, has announced the intention to adjust the statutory requirements for the Universal Service Obligation (USO). The package of measures could include increasing the range of postal rates as per 1 July 2013, which, in the first instance, could lead to an increase in the basic rate for letters of around € 0.06 starting that date. PostNL maintains one of the lowest postal rates in Europe. The Dutch Independent Post and Telecommunication Authority (OPTA) will verify whether these measures are necessary to ensure the profitability of the USO.

PostNL offers 1700 jobs for people distant from the labour market

The Hague – PostNL helps about 500 people distant from the labour market to get a job in mail delivery. This is the result of an agreement between PostNL, network organisation Locus and sector organisation Cedris. It concerns people from a social employment organisation or on welfare who will be working as a part-time mail deliverer. A similar previous agreement with Locus also offers jobs to more than 1,200 of such employees in the new parcel sorting and distribution centres.

Rijksmuseum collection on stamps

Amsterdam – On 25 March 2013 PostNL issues the Rijksmuseum stamp sheet on the occasion of the reopening of the Rijksmuseum on 13 April 2013. The stamp sheet is issued in the context of the reopening of the Rijksmuseum and shows the details of 24 works of art, providing a picture of the vast collection of the Rijksmuseum, in time as well as in subject and technique.

Mayor Krikke receives Burgers’ Zoo centennial stamps

The Hague/Arnhem – PostNL has issued a stamp sheet on the theme ‘mother and her young’ on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Burgers’ Zoo. On 9 March, the Day of Youth Philately, Paul Gelhever, retail manager of PostNL in Arnhem, together with the great-grandchildren of founder Johan Burgers, presented the special jubilee stamps to Pauline Krikke, the mayor of Arnhem.

Unique stamps on the occasion of the succession

The Hague – Today, PostNL presented the first stamps with respect to the historical moment at which Queen Beatrix will be succeeded by King Willem-Alexander. The product is a diptych with the last stamp of the Queen and the very first stamp of the King. At Royal Joh. Enschedé, the stamps were revealed hot from the press today by the Director of PostNL Consumer Market, Yme Pasma.

PostNL to deliver online orders for Gamma and Karwei

The Hague / Leusden – PostNL and Intergamma B.V. announce their intention to enter into a partnership for the delivery of all orders placed in GAMMA and KARWEI webshops. These webshops will be opened this summer. In addition to delivering regular orders, PostNL will also deliver orders on pallets and large products, such as dishwashers, shower basins and paint. The plans also include the introduction of PostNL collection points in the GAMMA and KARWEI stores, where customers can collect their online orders. The contract comprises about 1.5 million orders per year. The two companies will also develop joint E-commerce activities.

PostNL’s CLA and extension of Social Plan approved

The Hague – The members of Abvakabo FNV, BVPP, CNV Publieke Zaak and VPP trade unions have approved the agreement in principle for PostNL’s CLA. The CLA, which runs from 1 January 2012 to 31 March 2013, is a good balance of the wishes of both the labour organisations and the company. The Social Plan will be extended by one year from 1 January 2013 through to 31 December 2013. There will be a 1.7% salary increase along with 0.4% after the definitive approval of the new pension scheme. The parties are jointly in talks with the pension fund on a new pension arrangement. After approval about this with the pension fund, the labour organisations will present the arrangement to their members.

Guilder stamps valid until 1 November 2013

The Hague – The guilder stamp is still valid until 1 November 2013. Approximately ten years after the introduction of the euro, the guilder stamp will become invalid as a franking method.

New postage stamp to commemorate 125th anniversary ARCADIS and Heidemaatschappij

The Hague/Arnhem - Today PostNL launches the 125 year anniversary ARCADIS and KNHM stamp sheetlet, in collaboration with Arcadis NV Holding/ARCADIS Netherlands. On 17 January, the first stamp sheetlet was presented by Yme Pasma (Retail and Consumer Market Managing Director) to Neil McArthur (CEO ARCADIS NV Holding) and Clemens Cornielje (KNHM Chairman and Queen’s Commissioner for the province of Gelderland). The sustainability event organised by ARCADIS on 17 January served as the setting for the presentation.

UPS Anticipates European Commission to Prohibit Acquisition of TNT Express

The Hague – PostNL has taken notice of the press releases issued today by UPS and TNT Express, that indicate that the European Commission has informed UPS and TNT Express that it is working on a decision to prohibit the proposed acquisition of TNT Express. In its press release, TNT Express indicates that UPS informed TNT Express that UPS sees no realistic prospect that EC clearance can be obtained and that UPS will not pursue the transaction on any other basis.

Dutch mammals on stamps

The Hague / Hilversum – Today, PostNL in collaboration with the Foundation for Nature Footage launched a series of stamps with Dutch mammals. The first special stamp sheet of the series with the image of a squirrel was presented today by Yme Pasma, director retail and consumer market of PostNL, to Menno Bentveld, presenter of Dutch VARA-program Vroege Vogels (Early Birds). A unique aspect of these stamps is that after scanning with a smartphone a film about the squirrel is shown. The Foundation for Nature Footage consists of eleven nature organisations that collect footage of Dutch nature and make it available via www.natuurbeelden.nl.

Reinier Paping is given his own stamp

The Hague/Zwolle – Today, Reinier Paping was given his own stamp by Ard Korporaal from PostNL. On 18 January it will be exactly 50 years ago that Reinier Paping won the 1963 edition of the famous eleven-city skating marathon. PostNL honours the skater with his own stamp sheet to commemorate his legendary win.

The Hague – After intense negotiations, PostNL and trade unions Abvakabo FNV, BVPP, CNV Publieke Zaak and VPP have reached an agreement in principle on the PostNL collective labour agreement (CLA) for Mail Netherlands until 1 April 2013. The result is a good balance of the wishes of both the labour organisations and the company. The parties will jointly start talks with the pension fund on a new pension arrangement. The current social plan is extended until 1 January 2014. The salary increase is 1.7% plus 0.4% linked to the actual implementation of the new pension scheme

The Dutch are European champion in sending Christmas cards

The Hague – Sending Christmas cards is an old tradition and undeniably contributes to the spirit of Christmas and New Year. PostNL compared the traditions surrounding the sending of Christmas cards in 18 European countries. Research shows that the Dutch send the most Christmas cards. Within Europe, the percentage of households which send Christmas cards is between 68% and 76%. The Netherlands are far ahead with 90%. Despite the fact that traditional Christmas cards remain firm favourites, the technological variations are currently on the up.

Increase online St Nicholas orders despite recession

The Hague / Ede – De continuing crisis has little impact on the online St Nicholas orders, according to a joint study by Thuiswinkel.org, PostNL and Blauw Research on St Nicholas purchases. This year, online retailers expect an average revenue of €128 million for the week, €38 million (42%) more than in the period before St Nicholas. Additionally, parcels received increased by 41% during the St Nicholas period.

The Hague – The disputes committee has decided in the case between PostNL and the pension funds about the necessity of top up payments to supplement the coverage deficit. The disputes committee has ruled in favour of the pension funds. The disputes committee rules that top up payments are necessary already, regardless of the question if the pension funds can also recover in time without top up payments. The verdict entails payment of € 84 million by PostNL. In case PostNL would appeal, payment of an additional claim of € 49 million would be suspended.
